Optical Ground Support Equipment

We design, build and operate highly accurate Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE) for space science and Earth observation missions as well as ground based instruments.

This highly accurate equipment simulates the light an instrument will detect in space at a known brightness in order to check instruments are operating as expected before launch.

We use both off the shelf sources and bespoke equipment to test instruments of varying complexity at a range of wavelengths. We have developed custom-built OSGE for the SLSTR instrument for the ESA/EU Sentinel 3 mission, SPIRE for ESA's Herschel Observatory and MIRI for NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.
