JASMIN
The UK’s data analysis facility for environmental science
JASMIN provides the UK, and European, environmental science communities with an efficient data analysis environment. Many datasets, particularly model data, are too big to be easily shipped around: JASMIN enables scientists to bring their processing to the data.
Access to facilities
- A platform for high-performance data analysis operated by STFC to support NERC’s environmental science community
- A 55,000-core CPU cluster for a diverse set of user workloads and a modest GPU cluster
- Approximately 60PB of online storage for the CEDA Archive and working space for projects, with additional scratch and transfer cache space
- Approximately 90PB of tape storage, providing backup for the CEDA Archive and near-line storage for projects
- A cloud capability underpinned by STFC Cloud enabling tenants to construct bespoke computing environments
- A “Data Transfer Zone” providing optimised networking and tools to support friction-free transfers of data into and out of JASMIN
Access to expertise
Centre for Environmental Data Analysis
JASMIN is designed, integrated and operated by the STFC and jointly managed by STFC Scientific Computing and the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA). The CEDA programme manages and provides access to diverse environmental datasets, supporting research and analysis in climate, weather, and related fields.
Supporting the production of data for earth and space science
By combining operational data expertise, scientific research, computing capability and long‑term data stewardship, RAL Space supports the production of high‑quality data and their preservation for reuse by the scientific community and wider stakeholders, enabling missions to deliver scientific and societal impact well beyond launch.
