As a national laboratory operating in partnership with agencies, mission teams and research communities, RAL Space provides an independent and trusted environment for the curation and long‑term preservation of space data. Our approach is founded on the integration of data and computational resources, allowing users to access, process and analyse data within unified platforms.
Data handling and processing
We support the implementation, operation and maintenance of near-real-time instrument ground processors for space missions, enabling reliable data flow and monitoring.
Integrated data and analysis platforms
We support the analysis and application of data through integrated platforms that make data accessible and usable, including analytical environments and visualisation. This includes managing the JASMIN computing facility to enable data-intensive environmental science.
Long‑term data stewardship
We provide long‑term stewardship of space and environmental datasets, ensuring their sustained maintenance, integrity and availability to support reuse, interoperability and long‑term scientific and societal impact.

Revolutionising access to Earth observation data
Through project leadership, platform procurement and the integration of curated archive holdings, staff at the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) are supporting the delivery of the Earth Observation Data Hub, enabling government, industry and researchers to access trusted EO data through a single, shared capability. The hub makes access to Earth observation data more efficient and sustainable, supporting a wide range of stakeholders in making informed, data‑driven decisions with relevance to environmental objectives and society.
