Test and characterisation of millimetre-wave and terahertz instrumentation requires both highly-specialised test equipment and expert knowledge not only of the technology involved but also the properties of millimetre-wave and terahertz radiation.  MMTG has several well-equipped laboratories with a wide range of test equipment covering the frequency range from below 1 GHz to more than 1 THz; this includes multiple vector network analysers (plus frequency extenders), spectrum analysers, frequency generators, power meters (waveguide and coaxial), optical benches with quasi-optical test ranges and anechoic chambers, plus facilities for vacuum and cryogenic testing.

MMTG's world-renowned experts make use of these facilities for development of components including mixers, frequency multipliers, low noise amplifiers, frequency selective surfaces etc., and for the characterisation of receivers and radiometers for ground-based, airborne and satellite applications.  MMTG also makes its facilities and expertise available to support collaborative development programmes with partners from external organisations in the UK and overseas including Airbus Defence & Space (UK, France & Spain), Radiometer Physics GmbH (Germany), JCR Systems, Thales Alenia Space, the Met Office and several leading UK universities.

The RAL Space Millimetre-Wave Technology Group has a world class combination of specialised facilities and highly-qualified and expert staff with a commercial mind-set. We are keen to support collaborative activities, with new and existing partners and customers, for development ranging from single components or technologies through to subsystems and complete instruments.
