RAL Space and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (ATC) will be exhibiting alongside the UK Space Agency and the Harwell Space Cluster as part of the UK Pavilion at the 35th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs 08-11 April. Visit us underneath the Union Jack at stand 230 in the main exhibition hall.

Come and talk to us about the UK's world-class facilities, science and innovative technology development, launch from the UK and how we can collaborate with you.

Drop by for one of our dedicated sessions for a short presentation and Q&A:

Tuesday 9th

2pm - The UK Space Sector – Claire Barcham, UK Space Agency

The UK Government's £50 million spaceflight programme aims to kick-start small satellite launch and sub-orbital flight from UK spaceports. Seven sites are currently developing plans to become commercial spaceports and we expect the first launches to take place from Scotland in the early 2020s. This session will provide a chance to hear more about the UK's thriving spaceflight market and the opportunities available.

Wednesday 10th

10 am - Quantum technologies for space at the Science and Technology Facilities Council – Andy Vick, Head of Disruptive Technology, RAL Space.

Quantum Technologies (QTs) have the potential to open up entirely new ways of utilising the space domain for decades to come. This drop in session will explain how STFC RAL Space is leading the development of space applications from the UK's National QT Programme, now being renewed for a second 5-year term, and describe opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

11am – The UK's National Satellite Test Facility – Rob Elliott, Head of Business Development, RAL Space
The UK is building its very own National Satellite Test Facility, a £99m investment by UK government to provide a fully open access, one stop shop for the full environmental testing and qualification of satellites up to 7.5 tonnes.  This drop in session will be a chance to hear more about this brand new facility to be located in Harwell, Oxfordshire, when it opens, how to access it and answer any questions you may have.

12 noon - The Space Sector in Scotland and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre – Donald MacLeod, Innovation Manager, UK ATC
Scotland is one of the leading international centres for the build of Cubesats - the central belt builds more satellites than anywhere else in Europe. This session will expand on the growing sector in Scotland and the range of opportunities from conceptual research, design and build through to launch and operation. The UK ATC, at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, is a centre of excellence for the development of scientific instrumentation, having led the build of one of the four instruments on the James Webb Space Telescope and providing key instrumentation for eLISA, the forthcoming gravitational wave observatory.

Thursday 11th

10am – RAL Space, the UKs National Space Laboratory  – Rob Elliott, Head of Business Development, RAL Space
RAL Space is the UK National Laboratory to advance the exploration of space and the environment for the benefit of all. Working with industry and academia, it carries out world-class science research and technology development with significant involvement in more than 210 spacecraft to date. This drop in session will be a chance to find out more about RAL Space and ways of working across its scientific capabilities, technologies and open-access facilities

11am - Harwell Space Cluster: the Gateway to the UK Space Sector – Dr Joanna Hart, Harwell Space Cluster Development Manager
The Harwell Space Cluster comprises 89 space organisations, including the key public sector organisations: European Space Agency, Satellite Applications Catapult, STFC-RAL Space and UK Space Agency. Space companies that have a presence at Harwell Campus include multinationals such as Airbus Defence & Space, Lockheed Martin and Thales Alenia Space, start-ups and scale-ups including Oxford Space Systems, Rezatec and Open Cosmos. In total these organisations employ more than 950 highly skilled people. This drop-in session will give you the chance to find out more about the Harwell Space Cluster and its organisations, including what makes it an attractive location to start and expand a space business.
